SCOUTS AND THE COMMUNITY
"I still think that the general public is woefully unaware of the national asset the boy scout is to any nation or community, and that there are still people who have not got beyond the idea that scouting is jus: putting a peculiar uniform on a boy, teaching him funny games, trying to make him a sailor, soldier or airman, letting him make toys and making him say his prayers." This comment is made by Mr. R. F. ,Ward, metropolitan commissioner of the Auckland Boy Scouts' Association, in his annual report. Scouting's part in building strong citizens is also commented on by the president, Sir Joseph Smith.
