LAWN TENNIS

TAURANGA CLUB Annual Meeting Held Official Opening Next Month The annual meeting of the Tauranga Lawn Tennis Club was held recently and the retiring committee reported a successful season, despite a drop in membership caused by war conditions. The club's grass courts were reported in first-class order, and it was decided that the season would be officially opened on Saturday, October 30 and that a dance would be held in the evening.

During the past season, members of the forces made good use of the club and it was hoped to welcome still more of these players during the coming season, as well as new members, six of whom were elected at the meeting.

Special encouragement is given to school children and by arrangement with the Physical Welfare Officer, coaching is to be given t.n young members. Special mention was made of the good work of Mrs Johnson in this connection. It was decided that subscriptions remain the same. The election of officers resulted as follows:

President, Mr. D. A. Ivory; vicepresident, Mr. G. S. Jarvis; captains, Mr. J. A. Stenhouse and Mrs. C. W. Johnson; secretary, Miss 8.. Sherriff; auditor, Mr. J. R. Chambers; committee, Mesdames J. Baxter, W: Woods, Misses Joan McKenzie, A. Naylor and Messrs. R. Hunter and P. Waldegrave. Votes of thank's to the .retiring officers, the Domain Board, the Bay of Plenty Times and Mr. Ivory concluded the meeting.
