OMANAWA NOTES

SOCIAL GATHERING

ENJOYABLE EVENING HELD

A social evening was held in the Omanawa Hall recently when residents and friends from surrounding districts gathered to farewell Mr G. Bridson, who' is leaving for service with the armed forces, and to welcome Dvr. E. J. Peers who has returned on furlough from the Middle East.

Mr E. S. Kerr was Master of Ceremonies and excellent music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Morine. The decorations were most effective and this gave the function a homely setting.

After supper Mr Malcolm, on behalf of the residents present, presented Mr Briston with a-cheque and Mshed him luck in the future.

Mr R. McCready and Mr K. Walton, representing the Home Guard Mso spoke.

Mr Bridson replied and thanked all tor their kindness. in the absence of Mrs Bridson, a oVely P°sy presented by Nola Kerr, "’as accepted by Mr Bridson. Peers, Ordinary Seaman

C. R. Peers and Dvr. S. Hunt (Edgecumbe), who was on furlough, were then called on.

Mr Malcolm and Mr McCready extended a hearty welcome to the men and spoke in an appreciative strain of the magnificent work done by the New Zealanders on active service.

Dvr. Peers suitably replied on behalf of the guests of honour.

Dancing continued till a late hour and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Personal The friends of Mrs D. Heke will be pleased to hear that she has returned home after her recent illness. Pte. R. Haines, of Inglewood, who is on furlough, has been the guest of the Standen family.

Mrs W..H. Jensen has returned to her home after spending a holiday in .Auckland.

Mr Brame, of Auckland, has been visiting his sister, Mrs W. H. Jensen. Mrs Young, seur., and Mr Young have been visiting Miss Young at Omanawa.

Mrs P. H. Jensen is at present the guest of friends in Auckland. Mrs Campbell has returned to Greenlane after spending a holiday at Omanawa.
