OUR Daily Features

The following items of interest are reprinted from the Bay of Plenty Times of fifty years ago: The following return shows the strength of the colonial forces on December 31 last: Total number of men 63 67, Cadets 215 3, made up as follow: Five corps of cavalry, 309; 10 mounted rifle corps, 544; 17 companies of navals, HSS; 11 artillery corps, 627; 3 engineer corps, 177; 5S rifle corps, 3465; one honorary reserve corps, 57.

On Monday evening a concert in aid of the piano fund of the Musical Society was held in the public hall, when there was a large attendance of the public. The programme was of a mixed nature, from classic to comic, and seemed to be appreciated by the audience, and a number of items were encored. The baths have been much patronised during the last few days, for which encouraging state of affairs the credit must be distributed between the influx of visitors for the races, and the unusually hot weather. The season for shooting godwit commenced to-day. The birds are rather shy and not nearly so numerous as in most years.
