EXCHANGE ARRANGEMENTS

WELLINGTON. OCT. 14

Steps had already been taken to arrange for the exchange of New Zealand nationals and Japanese pi Loners of war. stated the Prime Minister. the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, in the House of Representatives, when replying to a question.

Mr J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour —Grey Lynn t. on behalf of the Hon. W. Barnard, member for Napier, asked whether steps would be taken to have New Zealanders captured by the Japanese in Malaya and elsewhere exchanged. In a note, he said there were cases where the wife had escaped to New Zealand, but the husband had been taken prisoner.

There had been certain exchanges made already, replied the Prime Minister. He could assure the House the whole matter was in hand.
