Further Men Called Up It was announced in a message from Wellington on Saturday that a start will be made in about fourteen days' time with the calling up for service of men called in the recent ballot. These are men in the 35-36-37 age group. Some of the men in the August ballot have yet to be called up.
China's National Day The following message was forwarded to the Consular-General for China by the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of China's national day on Saturday: "Best wishes for a happy and prosperous future for your industrious people with whom we are proud to be associated in the conflict for freedom." Beautiful summer weather was experienced throughout the week-end and many people spent Sunday out of doors, the ferry boats to the Mount being well patronised. Light rain set in last night, however, and a total of 12 points had been recorded up to 9 o'clock this morning, when light rain was still falling. A light mist enveloped the town and surrounding countryside early this morning.
