AWARD OF M.B.E.

SHIP'S CHIEF OFFICER The chief officer of the Port Chalmers, Mr Henry George Bacon Pinkey, has been awarded the M.8.E., according to advice received by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, from the High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, states a Wellington message. "Plis ship ' was recently attacked by aircraft," was the citation, "and Mr Pinkey was responsible for the organisation of the defensive armament and the assaults were driven off." It is understood Mr Pinkey's wife lives in Masterton.
