TAXATION ISSUE

HIGH COURT APPEAL. ATTITUDE OF OPPOSITION Melbourne, June 18. Federal Ministers are confident that the States' appeal to the High Court on the taxation issue Avill fail, but should it succeed it is most unlikely that the Government Avill carry the case to the Privy Council. Instead, it is expected to conduct an immediate referendum, designed to give the Federal Parliament supreme legislative and executiA r e authority. This proposal has the Avholehearted support of the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Fadden. He pointed out that, with Australia so gravely threatened, he felt confident that the people Avould unhesitatingly give the Commonwealth Government all the poAvers it desired.
