TIT FOR TAT One of Tom's pals has just got engaged to a girl who is a bit of a minx. She likes to let the boy know that he wasn't the only chap who wanted her. "He told me," said Tom, "that when he was slipping the engagement ring on her finger she said, 'Oh, darling, how lovely of you to have chosen my birthstone. None of the others ever did that!' " "Well, what was the answer?'' asked inquisitive Bill. "Oh, he didn't come out so badly," Tcm replied. "He just kissed her is the one I always use!' " and said, 'Not at all, dearest —this BREEDING At a farming school in the north of England, where youths from humble homes are trained to become farmers with a view to migrating to distant parts of the Empire, one lad was asked how he would know a pedigree bull from one of no particular breeding. He found it hard to explain, but eventually put it this way: "If you were moving a number of cattle from one field to another, a, common bull would rush through the gate as soon as he got there, but a pedigree bull would stand aside and allow the cows to go first."
