A Cot Case? Dr. T. Stuart, one of the successful candidates for the Hospital Board, was unable to be present at the Civic Theatre on Saturday evening to thank the electors for returning him. and the Mayor (Mr L. R. Wilkinson) apologised for him. Dr. Stuart, said the Mayor, had an engagement elsewhere. “A cot case?” queried a wag in the crowd, amid laughter.
No Smoking! • “I hope the new council will be able to enjoy a smoke,” declared Mr C. S. Moffatt, one of the defeated candidates for the Borough Council, when addressing the crowd ’outside the Civic Theatre on Saturday evening. In the past smoking at council meetings has been taboo.
