TERMS OF SURRENDER
DUKE OF AOSTA’S EMISSARIES ALL TROOPS IN AMBA ALAGI NOW SURROUNDED BY IMPERIAL FORCES London, May 18. To-day’s Cairo communique reports that emissaries from the Duke of Aosta, Commander of the Italian forces in Italy, have taken to the British commander, terms of surrender for the whole of the Italians in the Amba Alagi district, numbering about fifteen to twenty thousand. It is not known whether the Duke of Aosta is in this district himself. The Italians have been surrounded by Indian and South African troops following brilliant operations carried ouv. in mountainous country where the Italians had resorted to guerilla tactics. The fortress of Amba Alagi is named affer a mountain and is about 150 miles north of Dessye. The surrender of this fort will not necessarily mean the end of the Abyssinian camnaign. as there., is still .Italian resistance at Vandar and in tne Lake district which may be continued. Hitler’s orders to Italy were to co’-Gipue resistance as long as possible in order to prevent the release of troops for Libya. Rome radio is preparing its listeners for the surrender at Amba Alagi.
