HAVE A LAUGH

ODDS ON THE FAVOURITE Behind the grandstand there was a two-up school, and Old Tom, who had backed the first winner, breezed along to try his luck. Presently a dispute occurred, and Tom found himself involved in a fight. His adversary was very formidable. In the first few minutes Tom acquired a black eye. In the next round he had a tooth knocked out. Then a punch in the nose turned his face crimson. Some one in the crowd, anxious to encourage him, called out: “Stick it, old chap. It’s a hundred to one on you!” “Oh, is it?”, said Tom, picking up his coat; “Well then, I reckon I’ll knock off while I’m favourite!”
