OWNERS’ PROBLEMS
QUERIES FROSI READERS Q. —Apparently my new car has no petrol filter fitted, and I am wondering if it would not be worth while to have one fitted. Is one likely to experience trouble on the j road if no filter is used? —-B.G.T. A.—ln all probability your oar actually has two petrol filters, although these may not be visible, for most carburettors, and also fuel pumps, incorporate small filters of fine-mesh wire gauze. If, on examination, you find that there actually are no filters, it would certainly be well to have one fitted in the main pipe line, as it is always possible that water and foreign matter may find their way into the petrol tank. Q. —My car seems to run much better after I have driven several miles, particularly if I drive reasonably fast and pick out a rough road. Shouldn’t things be just the reverse? —R.B. * A. —It sounds as if the hydraulic shock absorbers want refilling. After dbing a few miles air pressure is built up insibe the shock absorbers, which has the temporary effect of acting like fluid.
