NEWS IN TOWN
News From Home In a letter received from her sister in England Mrs H. E. C. Carter, of Gat© Pa, gets first-hand news of the 'reception of the film “The Great Dictator.” The letter says: “It’s simply great, and of course the theatres are packed out. I wish Hitler himself could see it. It is thoroughly laughable.” In another passage, the writer speaks of the rationing. She says: ’“lt’s sc funny. No queues like last war, but crowds in the shops and we just wait our turn. The meat ration is slightly cut but our butter ration is 2oz. with 4oz. of margarine. We heat this with J-teacup of milk and that makes 2ozs more, sC we get |lb. Jolly good, don’t you think. Nothing matters but victory, and the downfall of Hitler.” More stories of damage and of stoical endurance are contained in the cheery letter.
