“Daireny Boy” in Berlin That the German Ministry of Propaganda misses few opportunities was aptly demonstrated recently. The “news” session from a Berlin radio station had just ended, but before signing off the glib announcer exhibited a fine touch of thoughtfulness expressly for listeners in Ireland, by stating that in honour of their patron saint the station would play “Danny Boy.” This melody was followed by a bracket of Irish airs. The propagandists had not forgotten St. Patrick’s Day.

paving Envelopes An ingenious method of saving envelopes for repeated use has been adopted in England, to judge from letters received by the last mail. The address and stamp are placed on a piece of light green gummed paper measuring about 4in by Sin and bearing the following directions: —“Fasten envelope by gumming this label across flap. Open by cutting label instead of envelope.” When the letter has reached its destination, as much as possible of the label is torn off and the envelope is used again by sticking another label in the same place.

White Butterfly Pest “If one visited parts of the North Island in the height. of the season and saw the white butterflies there one would not think that the numbers in Southland were epidemic,” stated Mr A. Stuart, instructor in agriculture at Invercargill, when speaking at the meeting of the Southland provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union. _ He said that the parasite which destroyed the white butterfly had been liberated in Southland and was doing its work, but just when it would catch up with the butterfly increase was a matter of conjecture.
