HAPPINESS CLUB
OFFICIAL OPENING TO-DAY
ARRIVAL OP VISITORS
The Happiness Club, which is a movement sponsored by the Farmers’ Trading Company, has become very popular in Auckland and is growing in the country centres. Owing to the enthusiasm of Mrs Sutherland and Mrs R. Polley a small beginning was made here this year and to-day nearly a hundred members have been recruited. As the official opening of the local Club is to be conducted this weekend by the Director, Miss Joan Sutherland of Auckland, about 123 members from the city have also made the trip. Further parties are expected to-day from nearby country Clubs.
The ladies arrived last night in the five o’clock train and alighted at the Strand Station where they were met by the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs L. R. Wilkinson and the leading members of the local Club. Miss Sutherland was presented with a beautiful bouquet of dahlias and w r as warmly welcomed. Among the visiting leaders are Mrs Cowperwaite of Western Suburbs, Mrs Hynes of Grey Lynn, Mrs Johnston of Avondale. Mrs Clow of North Shore, Mrs Markwick of Otahuhu, Mrs Horspool of Ponsonby, Mrs Beech of Mount Albert, Mrs Dew of Manurewa, Mrs Mclntyre of Auckland, Mrs Scott of Auckland who is acting-Secretary, and Mrs Warnford of Hamilton.
