NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL
ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND SIR CYRIL AND LADY NEW ALL SWEARING-IN CEREMONY TO-DAY Governor-General designate of New Zealand, Marshal of tlye Royal Air Force, Sir Cyril Newall, G.C.8., G.C.M.G., 0.M., C.8.E., landed at Auckland yesterday morning and left by special train for Wellington, where the formal swearing-in ceremony will take place. Sir Cyril was accompanied by Lady Newall, their three children, Miss Nora Walton, Lady-in-Waiting, members of Sir Cyril’s staff, including Captain C. J. Hollard-Martin, A.D.C., Royal Fusiliers, Mrs Bevan, wife of Wing-Commander H. Bevan, Comptroller, and their two sons, also members of the household staff. The proceedings when the Mariposa arrived were entirely informal. Sir, Cyril and Lady Newall were met by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, avlio represented the Government, the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, and the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr Hendry Luke. Although the simple proceedings were informal they were not lacking ,n warmth. Mr Parry conveyed a hearty welcome from the Government and chatted with Sir Cyril and Lady Newall. From Sir Ernest, Lady Newall received a magnificent sheaf of orchids and lilies. Mr Luke expressed the warm wishes of the Plarbour Board.
Others who met Six' Cyril on the liner were Wing-Commander Bevan, who arrived in New Zealand a month ago; Mr D. E. Fouhy, official secretary to the Governor-General designate, and naval officers.
