BAPTIST CHURCH

SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION A large gathering of friends met in the Baptist Sunday school hall last Monday evening, to welcome home Mr and Mrs S. Johanson, who were married recently in Auckland. The social part of the programme was in the hands of Messrs H. Davidson and D. Lacey, who had arranged a number of games, and vocal and instrumental items, which were greatly enjoyed by all present. Those who contributed were the following: Miss E. Silcock and Miss B. Franks pianoforte solos; Miss J. Johanson, Miss J. Williamson, Miss B. Franks, and Mr D. Lacey, vocal solos; the Farmilo family, quartette; Miss L. Christiansen, recitation; Mr R. Bruning, bagpipes. The Rev. L. P. Bryan who presided, then presented to Mr and Mrs Johanson on behalf of the people of the Church, a handsome clock with best wishes. Mr S. Johanson suitably replied. Mr A. Stewart, also spoke a few words t mentioning the esteem in which the Johanson family were held, after which the ladies of the Church served a dainty supper. The function was brought to a close with the singing of the Doxology.
