WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

PAEXGAROA Mrs W. E. Riddell presided over an attendance of members at ihe first meeting this year of the Paengaroa Women's institute. After the meeting had opened with the reading of the Aspirations, discussion took place regarding the stall at the A. and P. Association annual show. Mrs T. Conway and Misses L. Davey and N. McDowell, were deputed to take charge of the stall. It was decided that, on account ot the war, the Institute would not enter at the Eisteddfod which was to be held in Tauranga on April 3. In the discussion of general business, Miss K. Cruickshank gave a very satisfactory report about Bledisloe Park and Waihi Beach. A report was also presented about the parcels that have been made up by members of the Institute and sent to the troops overseas. The afternoon tea and social hostesses then took over the programme, opening with a social competition which was won by Mrs Vant. A competition for tearing a piece of paper into the shape of a cat brought forward some good models, the winner being Miss K. Cruickshank. Another competition, the making of a rock garden on a dessert plate, was won by Miss I. McDowell. Good business was done at the Bring and Buy stall conducted by Mrs W. Seal.
