LAKE POPULAR

SWIMMERS DESERT BATHS

Rotorua, Jan. 9

A falling off in attendances at the Ward and Blue baths was reported by the district manager of the Tourist Department. Mr H. Tregear. from December 24 to January 7, compared with previous years. Bathesr dropped from 32,918 in 1938-39 to 22,758 in 1940-41, and aggregate admissions, including spectators, from 38,253 to 25,940. The drop this season was accredited partly to the war, but more to the spell of hot, dry weather, in which bathing in the lake was more popular.
