PEDIGREE CATTLE

SOME GOOD PRICES REALISED

The Tauranga Jersey Cattle Club’s annual sale of pedigree Jersey Bulls was held in the Judea yards on Friday by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. There was a large number of buyers, and bidding for the various lots was keen, the prices realised being considered very satisfactory. Ninety-six head of cattle were catalogued, and all but a very few w§re passed in Mr H. G. Lever secured the highest price for the day, when the two-year-old Huia Reliance passed to Mr W, Allen at 60 guineas. All of these sales, which are sponsored by the Tauranga Jersey Cattle Club, are conducted under the strictest supervision, and a special committee is appointed by the Club to scrutinise each entry and inspect the stock before it is offered at auction. As a result of this care the buyer is safeguarded.. This also accounts for the success of the Club’s sales, and the noticeable steady improvement in the class of stock carried on farms in the district in recent years. Not a little praise is due to the Jersey Club for its effort to raise the standard of dairy cattle locally and thereby increase production. Mr Kelly, of the Loan and Mercantile Company, was the auctioneer, and he had the assistance of Mr Allan Horne of the Stud Department of the "Company.

Mr Horne congratulated the Jersey Club on the ,good yarding and the condition of the cattle. He said he had attended many such sales, and would say confidently that buyers could go further and do no better. The pedigrees showed that the cattle under offer had excellent butterfat backing.
