SPRING STREET BUILDING REMOVED The remoA r al of the old building standing on tile site formerly occupied by T. H. Hall’s cordial factory at the corner of Spring and • Grey Streets recalls old associations with the Borough in the early days. The house was originally built in 1874 for Mr Arlfeld, who started the manufacture of aerated waters on a small scale. He afterwards sold out to Mi* C. A. Clark. Mr Clark took a keen interest in local public affairs, and Avas chairman of the then Toavii Board from 18 9 3 to 18 97. With the assistance of his tAvo sons, C. A. and W. Clark, he continued the cordial factory business. The elder son, Mr C. A. Clark Avent into the same line of business in Rotorua. He married Miss Morrison, daughter of the proprietor of the Victoria Hotel which in those days, stood on the corner of Harington and WilloAV Streets Avhere Mr Milligan noAA' resides. The cordial business of those days had not quite so A\dde a clientele as popular demand makes it these days. Hotels then the principal market, and the AvheelbarroAV was the mode of deliA r ery. Mr C. A. Clark, senr., disposed of the business to Mr James Campeney, avlio in 1902 turned it OA 7 er to Messrs Hall and Amos. Mr Amos left the firm, and the late Mr T. H. Hall carried on and made considerable additions to the machinery before transferring the plant to neAA' premises further along Grey Street. The corner section has uoav been sold to the State Fire Department.
