Sleuth’s Son Must Look Bored

More than 800 babies were screentested for the role of Nick Charles, jun.,, in Metro-Goldwyn Mayer’s “Another Thin Man.”

The choice fell upon William Poulsen, eight months old and possessed of a very bored expression. Prances Goodrich ana Albert Hackett, who have written all screen plays for the “Thin Man” series, were of the opinion that Nick Charles, jun., should have an imperturbable and uninterested countenance befitting the son of the sleuth.

Myrna Loy and William Powell are co-starred in “Another Thin Man,” with Virginia Grey, Otto Kruger, C. Aubrey Smith, and Ruth Hussey in supporting roles.

In “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” which 20th Century-Fox is making, Linda Darnell will be seen in the forecourt of Grauman’s Chines© Theatre putting her feet in the imprints madei many years ago by Mary Pickford, and wishfully hoping that one day she may be a star herself. The studio has reproduced the famous forecourt on a sound stage, but you will not know it from the real thing. However, some eagle-eyed fans may notice that the footprints of the late Douglas Fairbanks, which actually are next to Mary’s, are missing. This has been done on purpose. The impressions made by Jean Harlow and Marie Dressier also have been left out. The studio wished to avoid any reminder of stars who have passed on.

Imitation jewellery is popular again in Hollywood and Rita Hayworth. of Columbia, wears a four strand necklace of gold chains with filigree balls to accent her dinner dress of black jersey. The strands tie like a scarf and may be worn together or separately.
