MONTHLY MEETING M *XY NEW APPLICATIONS FOR SIPPbY The monthly meeting of the Tanranga Electric-Power Board, held in the Board Room. Spring Street, yesterday, was attended by Messrs Allen Smith (Chairman), H. G. Lever. S. C. Baron, W. H. J. Poole, H. J. Clarke and C. E. S. Gane. Balance Sheet The Deputy Controller and Audit-or-General in returning the statement of accounts of the Board for the year ended March 31. 1939. stated: “The Audit Cilice having examined the balance sheet and accompanying accounts reQaired by law to be audited, hereby certifies them to be correct subject to the following exception: The travelling expenses paid to the Board's representative attending the meeting of the Electric-Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association are not actual reasonable travelling expenses provided for by Section 6, ElectricPower Boards and Supply Authorities Association Act, 1930.” The Secretary, Air J. R. Chambers, stated that for the last four years the Board had paid the representative to the meeting of the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association a daily x'ate to cover expenses, but the Audit Office ob- , jected to a daily rate and stipulated actual expenses. He had advised that the request of the Audit Office would be complied with. The Secretary's reply was approved. Electrical Journal Mrs E. Barrington, New Plymouth, wrote in reference to the issue of an electrical journal for the women of New Zealand, covering the uses of electricity in all departments of ; home life, and other subjects. The price of the first issue would be twopence per copy. Mr Poole moved- —That the Board purchase sufficient copies of the first issue of the journal and supply a copy free to each of the Board’s consumers.—Seconded by Mr Clarke
and carried. Service Line at Racecourse Mr A. J. Gallagher, Secretary of the Tauranga Agricultural and Pastoral Association, wrote asking the Board to waive the charge of £2 18s, made in March last for work in connection with the service line to supply the Association’s Show at the racecourse domain. 11l view of the 1 considerable expense of transferring to the racecourse, the Association j would greatly appreciate the Board’s assistance in the matter. The Board decided it would not accede to the request. Christmas Issue The Bay of Plenty Times, Ltd., wrote asking the Board to take advertising space in the Christmas issue of the Bay of Plenty Times. The Chairman moved —That the Board take a space as formerly.— Seconded by Mr Gane and carried.'The Secretary submitted a suggestion for advertising electric jugs' for sale on time payment. The Board agreed to the suggestion and left the matter of advertising in the hands of : the Chairman and the executive 'officers. Subdivision for Otumoetai Mr A. H, Benham wrote enclosing a scheme plan of a subdivision at Otumoetai, which was recently approved by the County Council. The sections would be offered for sale, and he asked for particulars as to charges in respect to domestic: supply and whether the Board would be able to connect up current as soon as official : ■ application was made. It was decided, subject to the consent of the Controller, to ;the extension, that supply be made available on the Board’s usual terms. Guarantees and Hire Purchase The question of the position of guarantees and hire purchase accounts of consumers ~ leaving to undertake military duties was submitted. It was decided that each case be submitted to the Board and dealt with on its merits, ■: Employees Who Enlist A letter was read from the Power Boards and Supply Authorities Association, stating that it was necessary that power boards' and supply authorities should endeavour to have a universal arrangement in regard to the position of employees enlisting for service overseas. The matter would be discussed by the Executive in the near future and the Board would be further advised. Mount Maunganui Bowling Club Mr G. Hart. Secretary of the Mount Maunganui Bowling Club, wrote in reference to extending electiicity supply from the shed on the bowling green to a pole in a central position, a distance of twenty-four yards from the shed. The Board was asked to consider doing the work gratis. The Club had just been formed and every endeavour was being made to have the initial expenses kept as low as possible. The Board. decided it could not accede to the request. Power Pole Position Mr A. H. Benham, County Engineer, wrote stating it was reported at the last Council meeting that one of the poles of the .line recently erected by the Board on Moffatt’s Road had been placed in a rather dangerous position on a corner near Covell’s property. He trusted the Board would make arrangements, to have the pole shifted and thought the whole cost should be borne by the Board. The Board referred the matter to Mr Bongard. Applications for Supply Forty-seven applications for supply to all parts of the Board’s dis-
trict were approved. Financial Assistance Fourteen applications for financial assistance, totalling £ 245 13s M were approved; , Accounts The accounts, as scheduled and presented, totalling £ 5655 Is 2d, were passed for payment. The principal item was £1946 10s to the Public Trustee for Interest on loans, Engineer’s Report The Board’s Engineer, Mr J. H.
