Labour Day Holiday. Monday next will be observed as Labour Day holiday. The principal attraction locally is the sports meeting to be held on the domain by the Tauranga Amateur Athletic, Harrier and Cycling Club. Tuis at Gate Pa. Four tuis have been noticed lately on properties in the vicinity of the Gate Pa battle site, and one of the birds is nesting. They have been attracted by the nectar of kowhai blooms, several of which are growing in the locality. Sale of Otunioetai Laud. Messrs McLaughlin Bros., of Otumpetai, have sold their property of twenty acres to Mr Wright, formerly of Whakatane, who has taken possession. Mynahs in Tauranga. Mynahs are making their appearance in numbers in the district. At Gate Pa a few days ago a farmer noticed three mynahs perched on a pig’s back in the paddock. It appears to be a habit of these birds to select animals’ backs from which they pick off the vermin that may be there. Week-End Cruises. The cruising season commenced last night when Mr F. Gresham’s B class auxiliary yacht. Ngahuia slipped her moorings at 6.30 for a three-days’ run up the coast and back. With Mr Gresham are Mrs Gresham and their two children, Messrs W. Stevens and J. Willcock. Mr B. Sladden and a couple of friends also left for a coastal cruise in the former’s launch Severn.
