COST RISES FASTER THAN SPEED
From 90 to 100 m.p.h.—-£SO per each additional five m.p.h. 100 to 110 m.p.h.— £IOO per five m.p.h. That; according to Mr E, C. Blackborrow, secretary of the Light Car Club of N.S.W., is approximately the scale of costs of speed in stepping up from stock model to racing car capabilities. From 100 m.p.h. onward, he says, the scale rises still more steeply. The costs take into account, of course, not only the higher costs of the special fuel required for racing, and the lower mileage yield it gives; the fact that one or more sets of tyres, may : be worn out. in the course 'of a single race; and the installation or perhaps a supercharger to boost engine performance. They take account also of the possibility that for the higher speeds a much more expensive type of car becomes necessary.
