CHRISTOPHER STREET
Sir,—l read with interest your reaort i’n Saturday’s issue of the Council's meeting, for the proposed purchase of road metal. . I am rather surprised at the result of the vote, as there seemed to be no doubt in the minds of councillors about the quality of the metal, or that the offer -was an extremely good one. The Mayor’s motion was defeated, however, due to some lack of initiative, or some inability of councillors to pull together. In the meantime the work in hand, namely, that of Christopher Street, as mentioned, remains in a half-finished state. This I presume will be the case, until the present period of languor passes, or some cheap rhyolite comes to hand. 4s week by week passes with continued Avet weather, it becomes very nauseating to a constant user of Christopher Street, in making vain attempts to drive up it and then having to wade in mud. I draw attention to this state of affairs, in the hope that good metal will soon be procured and the. job competed, as the street is much Averse now than before it Avas commenced. S. F. HENDERSON. Harvey Street West.
