MONTHLY MEETING REDUCTION OF WILSON HOME FEES . AWARD INCREASES SALARIES ’ The monthly meeting of the Tauranga Hospital Board, held at the Board’s Room at the Tauranga Hospital on Thursday, was attended by Mr A. B. Newsham (chairman), Mrs R. Faulkner, the Hon C. E. Macmillan, Messrs H. J. Clarke', J. T, Eccleton L. R. Wilkinson, C, P. C. McNaughton, W. F. Mundt and A. W. T. Hyde. Advance of Subsidy The Director-General of Health advised that the Acting Minister of Finance had approved of an advance of £ 1000 being paid to the Board. National Provident Fund The Superintendent of the' ,National Provident Fund wrote in reference to the payment of benefits and allowances in connection with the National Provident Fund. It was pointed out the disbursements were made now by the local authorities and a method might be adopted for the Department to make payment by cheque or through the local post office. It was decided to reply that the Board was in favour of the Department making payment direct. Wilson Home The Auckland .Hospital Board wrote advising a reduction of the charges for maintenance of children in the Wilson Home to 12s per day as from April 1, 1939. Social Security Act Numerous circulars in reference to Social Security matters were read and details explained by the Secretary. Traffic Signs It was agreed on the suggestion of the Hon Mr Macmillan that the Automobile Association be asked to erect traffic signs in the vicinity of the Hospital, Medical Superintendent’s Report Dr J Mark, medical superintendent of the Tauranga Hospital, presented report for the month of July, as follows: Admissions to hospital, 57; average, 43.4 j remaining in hospital at end of month, 44; operations, 32. Tauranga Matron’s Report Miss W. Matron of the Tauranga Hospital, submitted report dealing with staff matters, and thanked the following for gifts: Flowers —Mrs Moore, Mrs Marshall, senr., Mrs Mason, Mrs Allen, Mrs Jones, Mrs Evenden, and Miss Tebbs.
Fish—Mr Faulkner. Papers—Mrs Beale and Major Scantlebury. _ ' ' . Books—Mrs Faulkner and Mr A. Woods. Te Puke Maternity Hosintal Miss A. H. Lenihan, Matron of the Te Puke Maternity Hospital, forwarded report for the month of July. District Nurses • The Medical Officer of Health, /Auckland, forwarded repprts for the month of July in regard to services carried out by the district health nurses at Tauranga and Te Puke. Secretary’s Report The Secretary, Mr P, Lumley, reported that the fees collected to date totalled £ 1074; the estimate for the same period was £1125. Te Puke Hospital.—We have now received the Social Security allowance for two complete months. June brought £lO4 and July £ll2. Domestic Staffs Award, —I have just got a copy of the award for domestic staff. I have not had time to go. into it in detail but I imagine it will add roughly £ 200 per annum to the Tauranga Hospital salaries with the present staff. Accounts The accounts, as scheduled and presented, were passed for payment. In Committee The Board considered various matters in committee, including the admission of patients to hospitals outside the Board’s district,-fees due to the Board, and applications for financial aid.
