World Citizenship Organization Has Its Hub at Chicago
An organised move to widen horizons, to inspire the peoples of all nations to look at their national pro- , blems from a world viewpoint, has just been launched in Chicago. Cabled the World Citizens Association, it is not just another peace group, its sponsors insist. Its purpose is not to promote or support any specific instrumentality or agency, but rather, as its name implies, to build world citizens.
j Exactly how this is to be done, othj.er than in a broad, objective way, 1 has not yet, been determined, but the j idea has firmly crystallised and the { machinery been put into motion. The ' group, declares its chairman, Dr. ! Carleton Washburne, Superintendent !of Schools of Winnetka, Illinois, is I concerned with individuals, and with ! the job of transforming their viewpoints from one of narrow national-’ j ism to one ofinternationalism, in the constructive, non-political sense. The group, including ' such students of world affairs as Dr. Quincy Wright, professor of international, law, and Grace and Edith Abbott, of the University of Chicago, is convinced that the world has grown so j small that few domestic problems are without International significance. They believe that civilization itself depends upon a wider appreciation of the direct relationship of the individual to the world community.
