RAIN IN NORTH
DRY SPELL ENDED Whangarei, Oct. IS. For the 24 hours ended at 9 a,in. to-day the rainfall at Whangarei was 3.6 Sin-—a fall greater than that for the whole of September, during which 3.33 in was registered, all in the first fortnight. The last appreciable downpour was .55in, which occurred on September 25. Had the dry spell continued grass would have run to seed head, seriously curtailing hay crops. The ground has now received a thorough soaking, which will enable fertilisers to take full effect, and t will stimulate all pasture land.
