Scrub Fires. ■ Scrub fires in the back country in the Te Puna Riding covered a large area at the week-end. Pieces of burned fern fronds were lifted by a light wind from the fires and were carried as far as Tauranga, hundreds of them being deposited on lawns and streets. Many /of the fronds were from two to three inches long and as soon as they were touched they crumpled to ashes.
