NOW THEN —!
Sir, —I am indebted to Mrs B. Hatch for her letter, Avhich exactly illustrates what I said, previously, about the canvassers vicious propaganda. When they cannot win by fair means, they endeavour to silence their opponents by descending to personal' insults. For a person who has never met me, she is yet bold enough to deliberately misrepresent someone living in a different district. Let me answer her in correct order: 1. Mr Harne gave no answer to me. It was just a dribble on the bib from a person Avho knoAvs so little about the civic affairs, and community work of his home tOAvn, that he thought I was a man. 2. .1 wrote no letter of any kind to this paper after the Borough elections, for, or against, anyone. I stood as an Independent: got more votes than I-expected; took 'my defeat like a sport; and incidentally thoroughly enjoyed it. 3. I neA r er referred to canvassers who Avere collecting money or members, but those, like herself, who Avere just out to “put in the dirt.” No, this hatch is addled, or has Mr King’s disease. Try again. D. HARDWICK. P.S. Please publish Avithout pruning. I can take it. I thrive on'it. D.H. [This letter has not been published without pruning; a highly offensive paragraph has been deleted. — Ed.] . i.’m'thor iiOttt'rs to the Lditoi .ippc.n on Page Four.
