JORDAN CUP KEEN GAME IN FINAL RANGATAUA AND CADETS DRAW The football season was brought to a conclusion on Saturday when the Jordan Cup final between Cadets und Rangataua seniors gave rise to a very keen contest, in which tne play was mainly restricted to the forwards. Cadets established the early lead and ran up eight points in the first ten minutes. They held the scoring advantage until the last twenty minutes when Raugataua gained a lead of three points. A little later Cadets equalised, and then Raugataua added three points. Just on time Castaing kicked a penalty goal and the game ended in a draw —fourteen all. The teams were as follows: Raugataua.—J. Faulkner, S. Ellis, R. Gear, J. Ririnui, M. Tangitu, R. Dixon, T. Kakau, W. McLeod, Pio, T. Ririnui, H. Tutahi, H. Honiana, R. Rolleston, McPhee, R. Jones. Cadets. —A. Castaing, V. Lee, G. Jones, H. Rayment, P. Dare, J. Garvey, T. Kennedy, S. Wright, G. Fletcher, J. Gilmore, N. Fletcher, H. Kirschberg, J. McNeile, R. Henderson, J. Scandle. Cadets won the toss and defended the southern goal. Raugataua reached the Cadets’ territory early and Castaing cleared off a penalty, the ball going out on the Raugataua side of half-way. Cadets secured from a line-out and the forwards followed the ball across for McNeile to score. Rayment converted: Cadets, 5; Rangataua, 0. Following resumption Ellis obtained the ball and set his backs going but a slovenly pass spoiled the effort. Cadets infringed and J. Ririnui’s kick from forty yards missed narrowly. Prom close forAvard play Kirschberg picked up at midfield and made a fine run. He passed in-field to McNeile, who ran on the angle and on nearing the line handed back to Kirschberg, who scored. Castaing’s kick went outside the post: Cadets, 8; Raugataua, 0. Raugataua rallied strongly and tAvo penlaty kicks by J. Ririnui missed narrowly. Raugataua held on in the tAventy-five until Garvey cleared. The Raugataua forwards, led by Jones, Kakau and Rolleston swept back quickly and the ball rolled across for Lee to force. After hard forward play the Raugataua vanguard worked back to the Cadets’ quarter and pressed until Dare got in an effective clearance kick. The territorial advantage remained with Raugataua for some time but their backs lacked the necessary combination to break through the defence. Then Cadets infringed and Ellis landed a goal from tAventy yards; Cadets, 8; Rangataua, 3. Early in the second half Rangataua forwards attacked. Prom a scrum several backs handled and the winger, J. Ririnui, dashed over but stepped out at the corner. Rangataua maintained the pressure, and Kakau was pulled down a yard short of the line. Then the ball was sent to McLeod, Avho touched down. The kick failed: Cadets, 8;< Rangataua, 6. Rangataua continued to hold the play in Cadets’ territory until Garvey cleared with a punt to touch. The Cadets forwards tightened the play and worked steadily to the other end. Rangataua replied vigorously and a strong attack saAV Tutahi cross and touch down. Ellis converted: Rangataua, 11; Cadets, 8. The Cadets forwards shoAved out in a fast movement and Kirschberg fielded and sprinted for the southwestern corner, to be held up as he was about to touch down. Cadets pressed and from a rebound Kennedy secured and raced over to score. The kick, an easy one, piissed: Raugataua, 11; Cadets, 11. In the concluding stages Rangataua launched a strong attack. Cadets infringed and J. Ririnui landed a goal: Rangataua, 14; Cadets, 11, Cadets swept oack and the forwards dribbled across, Rangataua forcing. Immediately after Cadets Avere awarded a free kick, and Castaing landed a goal, making the final scores —14 all. Mr E. S. Hylton was referee. Some disappointment was felt at the fact that the Intermediate team from Auckland did not make the trip to Tauranga, axrd conesquently, the game against the local Juniors Avas cancelled.
