BOROUGH WATERWORKS

EXCHANGE OF LAND

EXTENSION OF SUPPLY TO SULPHUR POINT

SANCTIONED BY COUNCIL

The Water Committee presented the following report to Wednesday's meeting of the Borough Council: The pipe line was inspected from Section 263 to the intake, with a view of obtaining a general idea of sections to be acquired, etc. It has come under the notice of your Committee that in 1935, after considerable negotiation, it had been agreed to exchange two Borough Reserves, Sections 285 and 320, below the intake, for part of Mr J, K. Hamilton’s property above the intake, the object, being that the Borough should acquire control of the watershed immediately above the intake, and exclude stock therefrom. In December, 1935, Mr Hamilton was informed that the exchange had been approved, and that the survey would he proceeded with. Your Committee regrets to report that nothing further had been done in regard to the matter.

The following recommendations were made:

1. Mr J. K. Hamilton, Exchange of Land. —That the survey be proceeded with without delay. 2. Water Extension to Sulphur Point. —That’the 4-inch pipe be extended along Spit Road to Cross Road, approximately thirteen chains.

Cr Matheson, Chairman of the Water Committee, elaborated the report and the two recommendations were adopted. Mr Boak said the total estimated cost of the water extension to Sulphur Point was £l9O 10s. A joint communication, signed by M. Wallis, R. McCready, M. Keiller, and Hynds and Co,, Ltd,, was read asking that their properties be supplied from the Borough water supply in Cambridge Road.
