FARMERS’ UNION
TAURANGA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the-Far-mers’ Union was held in the Town Hall Supper Room on Saturday last. After the correspondence had been attended to the Secretary reported on the last Auckland Executive meeting. Mr Ream’s name was sent forward as a lecturer on the practical treatment of cattle diseases. The Southland farmers are issuing a book covering all phases of farming activity. It was decided to ask them to send their prospectus, to be issued through the cream cans, with a view to obtaining subscribers for this publication. It was decided to keep pressing for payment for butter to be made ex store as against ex ship, thereby saving considerably in interest. The following resolution was passed to be forwarded to the Minister of Marketing.—-“ That this meeting of the Farmers’ Union emphatically protests against the action of the Government in denying to the dairy farmers, what the Government’s own commission of experts considered was an economic price for their produce and which will give the efficient farmer a fair standard of living.” A special meeting of farmers is to be held on October 8 for the purpose of setting up a farm manager’s scheme. The object is to have assistance available at all times for farmers who, either through sickness or holiday, are not able to attend to their duties.. It is hoped that in order that the scheme be brought to a successful conclusion, there will be as large an attendance as possible. Arrangements have now been made to ii.se the Presbyterian Hall for all future meetings of the Union.
