Very Heavy Rain. Very heavy rain fell last night, the registration by The Camp gauge being 2.95 inches. The storm was varied by thunder and lightning, which commenced just before 7 a.m. and continued intermittently for some hours. Hail fell at 8.45 a.m. and the weather conditions are very trying for live stock, and particularly young lambs.

Snow in Rotorua

Snow fell in Rotorua this morning, The fall was light and did not lie for any length of time. Bible Class Social. The combined boys’ and girls’ Bible Classes of Holy Trinity Church held a social in the Parish Hall last night. Table tennis, games and competitions were held, and violin solos were given by W. Stevens and G. Lyons. A light supper was served, a pleasant evening closing shortly after 10 o’clock. False Alarm. During the thunderstorm at 7.20 this morning the fire syren sounded an alarm, which proved to be false, and it was thought it was due to lightning striking the wires. Farly Dairying' Days. Mr T. French, of Bell Block, Taranaki, who was a recent visitor to Tauranga, recounts an incident in early dairy-farming days in that favoured district. Dairy farming was then not the highly specialised and organised industry it is to-day There were no buttermaking factories, as we in this generation know them. It was a matter of the farmer making his butter on the farm and exchanging it for family and farm necessities at the local store. With more commendable foresight Mr Brake, who is still living, used to collect milk from the farmers’ gates daily for cheesemaking and carried a bugle to announce his approach to each supplier.

Football Visitors. The Central Hawke’s Hay footballers arrived here in two motor 'buses from Te Puke this morning and left iu the afternoon for Waihi, where they will play the Thames Valley Rugby team on Saturday afternoon.

Tuapiro Bridge Repaired. The Public Works Department completed tbe repairs to Tuapiro Bridge—which was damaged last week by Hood water —yesterday afternoon and through traffic on the Tauranga- Waihi highway has been resumed.
