Banks’ Holidays. For the second week-end in succession, the banks this week-end will have an extended holiday, closing this afternoon until Tuesday morning. The bank holiday for St. George’s Day and St. David’s Day will be observed on Saturday, while the fact that Anzac Day falls on Monday will add another day to the week-end break.
Summer Time Ending. Summer time will end on Sunday next, when New Zealanders will put back the hands of the clocks by half-an-hour. Daylight saving, as it is sometimes known, was introduced in New Zealand in October, 1927, when an hour was added to the daily period. The following year it was amended to half-an-hour, and it has remained so ever since.
Large Transformer. A large transformer, weighing five tons, was landed here this morning from the vessel Clansman for the Tauranga Borough Council. New "Wharf at Matakana. A quantity of hardwood timber was brought to Tauranga by the Clansman to-day for the new wharf to be constructed at Matakana, for the handling of timber from the island for the Whakatane Mills. The hardwood was loaded direct to Messrs Faulkner Bro’s punt for transport to Matakana Island to-day. Fire Brigade Vacancy. The local fire brigade is inviting applications for the position of fireman in the brigade. Applicants for the position must be over 18 years of age and the applications close with the Secretary, Mr P. Sander, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday next, the 26th inst. The applicants are also requested to attend at the fire station in Durham Street at 7.30 the same evening.*
