Soda Water Invented In England in 1767

The oldest bottle of soda water in the world was one recovered from the wreck of the Royal George, which went down off Spithead in 1752. The bottle was later sold at auction for 25 i guineas. Soda water had been invented in'England in 17 67, but Thackeray evidently did not know this. The opening scenes of "Vanity Fair” were laid in 1815, almost half a century after soda water’s invention.
