The ‘ollowing report on work done during the month of March was preyed hr llie Cou,lty Engineer, Mr A H Benlmill. 10 the last meeting of'the Tauranga County Council. State Highway

* total of 17G cubic yards of metal „.prc carted and spread on this highfrom Athenree Quarry for the p.thlic Works Department; also 103 ards were carted to the Katikati School grounds for the Public Works highways Tauranga-Mataiunta Highway The Barke’s-Ruahihi section ,of ♦his Highway was planed twice and 20 cubic yards of patching metal SP The Ruahihi-Boundary section received general maintenance attention throughout, 50 cubic yards of maintenance metal being spread and the whole road graded, Tc Puna Point-Omokoroa General maintenance work was effected where necessary. Rotorua Direct This Highway was planed, bridge repairs were effected, and general maintenance carried out. Papainoa-.MouiJt Highway This highway has had general maintenance work carried out on it and it was planed three times during the month. Make!u Highway This highway was planed once and watertables cleaned out as required. Kalikaii Riding Watertables were cleaned, culverts opened, and metal patched on Kauri Point Road, Bowentown Road, Cooper’s Road. Busby’s Road. 1 Scrub was cut hack and general I maintenance work attended to on j Woodlands Road, Limlemann’s Road ’ and Thompson’s Track. Willoughby’s Road Grant. — A fur_ ther 60 cubic yards of metal have been spread on this road. This completes this metalling grant. Te Puna Riding 1

‘ Forty live cubic yards of metal were spread on Young’s Road, 27 cubic yards on Crawford’s Road, 49 cubic yards on Whakamarama Road, and 51 cubic yards on Bledisloe Road. In addition to having metal spread on them, each of the above roads received general surface attention where required. Ross Road was graded and* Snodgrass Road and Wairoa Road received general maintenance attention.

Kaimai Soldiers Road was graded. The scrub was cut back and watertables, etc., attended to. Youugson’s Road Grant.— A start has been made on this work. The grader 'has graded the road into shape, and 447 cubic yards of metal have been carted and spread.

Esdaile’s Hoad Grant.—A further 61 cubic yards of metal were carted and spread on this road. This completes this work, there being a total of 541 cubic yards of metal spread under the Government grant.

Wainiapu Riding

In this riding 4 6 cubic yards of metal have been spread on Joyce’s Road, 99 cubic yards on Oropi Road, 186 cubic yards on Oropi Gorge Road, and 24 cubic yards on Omanawa Road. Otumoetai Road, Cambridge Road and Moffatt’s Road were planed twice. Pillaus’ Road and Oropi Road were planed once during the month. All the above mentioned roads and Belk’s Road received general maintenance attention, repairs being effected to the surface where required. Tomsett’s Road Grant..—The grader has been working on this road and a total of 226 cubic yards of metal has been spread during the month.

Te Puke Riding

Iu this riding Ohauiti Road has received general, maintenance attention and had 162 cubic yards of metal spread on it. Bridge repairs were effected on the Ohauiti_Waimapu Road, and watertables, etc., kept in trim., , Damage done to Poeke Road has been repaired and 6 8 cubic yards of metal have been spread. The work authorised on Carruth’s Road has been completed. Harray’s, part of No 2 Road and Shaw’s Roads were widened and graded, and the Mangatoi Road was scarified and reformed. The bridge in the Mangatoi Gorge v.. was repaired.

General maintenance was carried out on the following Roads and 15 cubic yards of- metal were spread on “° * Road, -73 cubic yards on No 2 Road, 21 cubic yards on No. 3 Road, and 15 cubic yards on No 4 Road. The planer has been over Otaimatua Road. No 1, No 2. and No 3 Roads, Quarry Road, and Manoeka Road. Lowrie’s Road has also received general maintenance attention. Otamiatua Road Grant.—A furtntr 345 cubic yards of metal have oeeu spread on this road during the month completing this work.
