BIRTHDAY PARTY (From Our Correspondent) A very enjoyable evening was spent at “Hazeldene,” Otumoetai, 0:1 Saturday evening last on the occasion of the 21st birthday of Miss Betty Mander. Miss Mander made a charming hostess and welcomed her guests in a pretty white frock. Games and competitions were enjoyed and several items were supplied by the guests. The "waistcoat” competition for gentlemen was won by Mr R. Armstrong while the ladies competition was won by Mrs R. Presoott. One paper competition was won by Mrs Silvester, and another by Miss N. Armstrong. Recitations were kindly given by Miss D. Mander, Miss N. Armstrong, Mr D. Mander and Mr W. Smith, and Mr W. Brockway entertained with his accordion and mouth-organ. Among those present were:—Mr and Mrs Mander, Mr and Mrs Silvester, Mr L. Silvester, Mr R. Armstrong, Miss Youngson, Miss N. Armstrong, Miss D. Mander, Mr H. Silvester, Mr W. Brockway. Mr R. Mander, Miss L. Smith, Mr D. Mander, Miss R. Prescott, Mr W. Smith, Miss E. Brinkley and Mr A. Loveridge. SCHOOL PICNIC A picnic was held at Omokoroa beach on Monday last for the Te Puna school children. The weather was quite good but for a fairly cold wind, and the children enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The committee supplied free ice-cream for the children, and bathing was enjoyed. The picnic was well patronized by the parents, and a very happy day was spent. Great credit is due to both the School Committee and the teachers for such a successful picnic.
