KATIKATI NEWS
END OF PLUNKET CARNIVAL TOWN BABY WINS Saturday was a red-letter day for Katikati, as it marked the end of the Baby Carnival which had been going on for the last three months in aid of funds to build a Plunket Room and Rest Room. A fancy dress Ball was held in the afternoon and at three o’clock Mr Ken Holmes, who was Master of Ceremonies, announced the results. At the commencement he said that the people of Katikati would be delighted to know that the splendid sum of £139 had been collected. This was beyond all expectations and the subcommittees, and all who had assisted were to be heartily congratulated. The winning baby was from the Town, Baby Bruce McLeod, whose total was £55, and Mr Holmes presented him with a silver serviette ring. The second and third babies, Grace Andrews (Aongatete) and Barbara Deverell (Athenree) were close together in second and third places, and they received a gold bangle and a knife, spoon and'fork set respectively, returning thanks in their own way.
