BOROUGH COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING PLANS OP PROPERTY SUBDIVISIONS SALE OF ENDOWMENT The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council, held on Wednesday evening, was attended by His Worship the Mayor, Mr L. R. Wilkinson (in the chair), Crs F. J. Allely, J. M. Dailies, A. W. Every, T. E. Youngman, W. McKinnon, A. J. Gallagher, D. Matheson and A. N. lies. Cr lies apologised for the absence of Cr C. T. McFaiiane from the meeting.—Leave of absence was granted. St. John Ambulance Mr L. Warde, Hon. Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, advised that the annual meeting would be held on August 13, and invited the Council to be represented by as many members as possible. It was decided that as many councillors as possible attend the meeting. Architect’s Fees Mr A. S. Newland, Agent for the Public Trustee, forwarded account for £ll6 13s 3d for architect’s fees on borough contracts as due to the Estate of the late H. L. D. West. The Mayor moved —That the letter be referred to the Finance Committee to report upon.—Seconded by Cr Daines and carried. Plans of Subdivisions Mr R. T. Goulding forwarded for approval amended plan of proposed subdivision of Part of Lots 520, 421, 423 and 524, Section 11. The property is at Topcroft. Cr Every thought the plan should be referred back to the Town Planning Committee. Cr lies moved —That the plan be approved and sealed and signed; j also, that the owner he advised that in any further subdivision provision be made for reading. Cr McKinnon seconded and the , motion was carried. Messrs Sharp, Tudhope and Auld wrote on behalf of Mr G. Lodge, forwarding Land Transfer plan, for sealing by the Council. The land is in Spring Street. Cr lies moved —That the plan he approved and sealed and signed.— Seconded by Cr Daines and carried. Mr R. T. Goulding wrote stating it had been decided to show the subdivision of the balance of McCntchan’s Estate (Security Buildings property) on one plan, and as the right-of-way originally shown across the western end of Lot 1 had now been deleted, it would be necessary to have the Council’s further approval to the subdivision. The only alterations to the two subdivisions already approved by the Council are that the lot numbers have been altered, and the right-of-way shown across Lot 1 has been deleted. The adjoining owner, Mr A. lies, proposes to purchase Lot 2, which has no separate street frontage. A plan of the subdivision was submitted for approval. The Mayor moved —That the plan be referred to the Town Planning Committee to report upon.— Seconded by Cr Gallagher and carried. Municipal Abattoir Mr A. T. Rutherford. Manager of the Municipal Abattoir, advised that Mr Coulston, of the abattoir staff, had left for a fortnight’s holiday on July 17 and Mr S. Sellars, of Auckland, was relieving. Mr Sellars wrote asking that he be allowed board and lodging and travelling expenses. Cr lies moved —That the matter be referred to the Abattoir Committee, with power to act. —Seconded by Cr Daines and carried. Underground Cable Mr G. Beaglehole, Telegraph Engineer, Hamilton, wrote advising that when the interphone position, was installed in the Council’s store it was necessary to place a length of cable underground in a water-pipe. A sketch plan, showing the position of the cable, was attached. In the event of the cable being damaged by any person other than, the Department’s workmen, the Council would be held responsible for the cost of effecting repairs. Cr lies moved —That the letter be handed to the Engineer’s department. —Seconded by Cr Allely and carried. Formal Objection Mr M. P. Munro, wrote as follows; “As agent for Mr P. J. H. Munro, the owner of property with frontage to Eighth Avenue East, I wish to lodge formal objection to any obstruction being placed on this street: also, to require that any placed there be removed.” It was pointed out that trees had been planted in the avenue. Cr Every moved —That the matter be referred to the Works Committee, with power to act.—-sec-onded by Cr Daines and earned. Ladies’ Rest Room Mr C. H. D. Porter, architect, torwarded Mr A. Road Obstruction Cr Allely brought up the question of motor vehicles obstructing the roadway in Devonport Road and First Avenue. He said many complaints had been made. ] The matter was refererd to the 1 Inspector for attention. i Town Planning The Town Planning Committee, in a report presented the following recommendations in regard to proposed subdivisions: Mr Shearman’s. —That the plan be referred back to the applicant, suggesting that provision must be made for a 40ft. road. Mr J. Clist’s, Sections 859/60. —■ Approved, but that there is no undertaking to give access. Mr Steele’s. —The Committee adheres in toto to its previous recommendation. Cr McKinnon, Chairman of the Town Planning Committee, explained the various clauses. The clause in reference to Mr Shearman’s plan, had been already dealt with and was withdrawn. The clauses in respect to Mr Clist’s and Mr Steele’s subdivisions were approved. Works Committee The following recommendations wer made by the Works Committee. 1. Mr H. J. Gill, Request for Footpath.—That Mr Gil! he informed that his application is provided for in the loan proposals. 2. Mr Johansen, Access. —That this matter be referred to the Town i Planning Committee. There is no j present intention of filling in. Fifth Avenue. I 3. Mrs Kingdom Access. —That a j recommendation will be made aftei 1 further consideration. The matter of giving access is giving the Committee some concern. 4, Disposal of Motor Trucks. That the Borough Engineer he authorised to get price for trade-in of three trucks. Cr lies explained the various clauses in the report and all were adopted. Endowments Committee The following recommendations were made by the Endowments Committee: 1. Sale of Borough Endowment, Lot 337, Section 1, Willow Street. — That the price of the endowment be £ 965. „ - . 2. Leasing Lot 278, Section 1, Hamilton Street. —That the section is not available at present. 3. Leasing Strip of Land in Elizabeth Street to Mr Horton. —That this offer to lease at Is. per week on a yearly basis, be accepted. The following matters were deferred: — (1) Appointment of Borough Architect. (2) Deputation of the St. John Ambulance Association.
