WINTER SHOW
TO BE HELD IN JUNE STRONG COMMITTEE APPOINTED PROPOSAL TO FORM ’ COMPANY A meeting, convened by the Mayor, for the purpose of carrying on the Winter Show was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday night. There was a fair attendance. Mr Bradney Williams, Chairman of the Combined Committee set up to consider the question, presented the report of the findings of the committee, which have been already published. He also read a letter from the Harbour Board offering the lease of three sections. Each section had a frontage of 4 0 feet, with a depth of 60 feet, and the rental of each was £ 26 per annum. The question of Elizabeth Street site, as mentioned in the report of the Combined Committee, was dis-’ cussed. ' It was decided that arrangements for the holding of the Winter Show this year be taken in hand forthwith. A committee comprising the Hon. C. E-. Macmillan, Messrs L. R. Wilkinson, Bradney Williams, O'Hara, L. Norman, L. Warde, G. Norris, P. T. Keam, H. E. C. Carter, A. C. Isherwood, F. N. Christian and A. J. Gallagher, with power to add to the number, was set up to take the matter in hand. The Hont Mr Macmillan was elected chairman and Mr A. J. Gallagher Secretary. The Chairman, Mr Macmillan, suggested that a company should be formed and that a prospectus, with provisional directors, issued, in order to gain public support, the present committee to be a provisional one formed for the purpose of carrying on the’Winter Show for this year. Mr Bradney Williams proposed-—• That the Chairman, Secretary and the mover be a committee to prepare a draft of prospectus of the proposed company and submit a report to the next meeting. Mr Christian supported the proposal, which was carried. In regard to the subscription for the show it was decided that this he fixed at 10s 6d, with the privilege of a season ticket for member and five single tickets for ladies. It was decided that the show be held - at a date to be fixed towards the end of June. Mr Norris suggested that the General Committee should be composed of representatives of sporting and public bodies. The following were elected additional to the committee: Mi:s Gavey, Miss Stewart, the Hon. B. C. Robbins, M.L.C., Mr C. H. Burnett, M.P., Messrs K. J. Rennie, A. Bell, J Mowlem, R. Strugnell, F. W. Keam,’ W. Sim, M. W. Watt, K. Phelan, A. J. Mirirelees,- D. Gamble, W. H. Giilord, chairmen of local bodies, and members of the Executive Committee of the Tauranga Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Other matters of detail were discussed and a meeting ot the general committee was fixed for Monday night. Owing to the Council Chamber being already booked for that dats, the Executive officers have altered the date of meeting to Wednesday ntght.
