DAIRY PRODUCE

BUTTER PRICES RISE MARKET FIRM Auckland, April 17 Prices for New Zealand butter continue to rise, and the latest quotation of 106 s is the highest -eached this year. Supplies are short, and the market is Arm. The present value is Is higher than that in the middle of the week, and shows a rise of 5s since the end of last week. The London quotation of 106 s is equal to approximately 12.32 d f.p.b. New Zealand ports, and is only fractionally below the guaranteed price of 12.566 d per lb. Ro.b. This is the first time since November, 1936, that the guaranteed level has been ; approached. The premium enjoyed by Danish butter over the New Zealand product is fast "disappearing, and at present the difference of only 7s per cwt. is equal to the lowest recorded during the 1935-36 season, while the lowest in the 1934-35 season waslOs per cwt. Increasing quantities of Danish butter are now becoming available, and prices generally suffer a seasonal decline at this time of the year. Eventually New Zealand has been able to profit by this position on account of the shortage of stocks. Cheese values also are high, both white and coloured selling at GSs 6d, 2s 6d higher than a week ago. The market is firm.
