COUNTY INSPECTOR

MONTHLY REPORT The following report was presented by Mr T. B. Turley, inspector, to Friday's'-meeting of the Tauranga County Council: Infectious Diseases Since my last report two eases of infectious diseases have been notified, one being a case of pulmonary tuberculosis and the other a case : of iulantile paralysis. AVith regard to tliis case I beg to state that when notitiesd all necessary precautions were immediately taken to prevent the spread of the infection and until the necessary bacteriological examination "■■vs carried out, a close watch was kepi „.. the area affected. I am now pleased to report that the bacteriological test proved to be a negative one and Hi us the tension created by the reported case in the county has now been removed. Full reports have been forwarded to the Medical Officer of Health. Traffic Twenty-three licenses have been issued, six of which are new drivers, having passed the necessary test, Fees collected, £5 15s. Heavy Traffic Licenses. Thirty licenses have been issued, fees collected amounting to £SS 7s 11. At last mouth’s sitting of the Court, proceedings were taken against five offenders for breaches of the Motor A'ehicle Regulations. In each case offenders were convicted and flues totalling £ 4 and costs were imposed. General Inspection Ten building permits have been granted on buildings to the value of £2,541, from which tees collected amount to £ 7 10s. I wish to bring before your notice the indifferent attitude taken by certain plumbers and draiulayers, also owners of buildings, who operate or own buildings at Mount Maunganui. These people are under the impression that anything is good enough for Mount Maunganui and no permits are required and any type of drainage wil! do. At the present time correspondence is proceeding with the Health Department, Auckland, concerning glaring inefficiency of a case in this area and steps are being taken against the offender. Action will, in all cases, be taken against any person who attempts to do sanitary plumbing or drainlaying in Mount Maunganui Town Board area without the necessary permit and license being granted. This is compulsory, Mount Maunganui being gazetted as being under the Plumbing and Drainage regulations of the Health Act, 1920, in November 7, 1929. I would respectfully bring before you the new regulations concerning camping grounds as gazetted in the Health Act, 193 6, and the desire of the Health Department that the Council make application to have the county district gazetted for the purpose of these regulations, and thus bring about a - more healthy and sanitary condition of camping areas, under local authority control. Race Traffic There were approximately 1,500 motor vehicles_handled on the first day of the meeting, and, approximately, 1,300 the second day. The motorists generally, conformed to all necessary requirements and very little trouble was experienced. At a given point ZGS cars passed in 45 minutes. This shows they were des~ patched at the approximate rate of six a minute which is a very fair average. Chief Inspector Ainsworth, of the Highways Board, and four officers were present and assisted generally, in the regulating of traffic on the approaching highways -and commented very favourably on the arrangements made both by the Racing Club and local Inspectors for the efficient handling of the large volume of traffic. The Council decided to defer the matter in regard to camping grounds.
