GRASS TORX OUT WITH IROX BAR
Last night towards midnight two men, using a bar of iron, wrought considerable damage to the newly laid out bowling green on the Tauranga domain. The iron bar was about four feet long and was curved at one end. With it holes, up to four inches in depth, were torn all over the green, and the new grass, which had "struck well, has been torn out by the roots.
The caretaker, who was sleeping in the pavilion, heard a noise, and on looking out. saw two men on the green. He ran up as fast as he could, but the men saw mm and made good their escape towards the south, where they were able to hide amongst the trees.’ The damage is considerable and the work of filling the holes and re-sowing of the grass will he a long process and a very tedious one. It is hard to conceive the mentality which prompted such wanton destruction. Fortunately the culprits were observed in their dastardly work, and the matter has been placed in the hands of the police.
