Opotiki Race Meeting. A combined meeting of the Committees of the Bay of Plenty Racing Club and the Opotiki Jockey Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers latt night. Mr K. J. Rennie (President of the Bay of Plenty Club) presided. Various matters in connection with the Opotiki Club’s race meeting, to be held on the Gate Pa course on June 19, were considered and finalised, subject to the approval of the racing authorities. An Executive was appointed to run the meeting on behalf of the Opotiki Club.
Barge Tomatoes. Exceptionally large tomatoes have been grown this season by Mr F. Bates in his garden in Arundel Street. The largest was weighed yesterday and turned the scales at eighteen ounces. Others have varied from S ounces to 13 ounces. MiRates regards the tomato as a good blight resister. He obtained the seed ronie time ago from a friend. He does not know the name of the variety and has hopes that it may be identified by some local horticulturist. <
