81-MONTHLY MEETING IMPROVEMENTS TO BUILDINGS CONFERENCE AT TIMARU The bi-nioutlily meeting of the Hospital Board, held in the nnard'a Office at the ’lauranga HosS on Monday, was attended by Mr k v Newsham (Chairman), Miss A. t Tavey Messrs H. Mundt, al The Director-General of Health in regard to proposed alteraHnns and additions to the nurses’ home at Tauranga, and stated that •th a few amendments the plan now on lines which could be apnroved and working plans and specifications could be proceeded with. The Director-General also lorwardefi communications in respect to alterations to the nurses home and baS porch at the Te Puke Hospital, -Old staled that the plans and specifications would be forwarded to the Loans Board to enable the Public Works to report. The Assistant Manager of the Auckland Savings Bank, in replying , a letter in reference to loan of £ 7000 for buildings, advised that ,he Bank had no statutory power to lend on Hospital Hoard debentures. The Manager of the State Advances Corporation, in replying to a letter from the Board, advised that j„ view of existing loan commitments the Corporation was unable to quote for a loan which may not be required for some time to come. It was suggested that the Hoard get in touch with the Corporation again when the former has obtained aii necessary authorities to enable it to raise the loan of £ 7000 now under contemplation. Sodium Gliloraie Accidents

The “Truth” Newspaper, Auckland, wrote asking for particulars of any accident cases due to sodium chlorate which may have been treated at the Tauranga Hospital in the last two years. It was stated that no cases had been treated in the local hospital. Proposed Capital Works

Dr. M, H. Watt, Director-General of Health, wrote forwarding form for completion in connection with the proposed capital works for the ensuing financial year. The capital expenditure for works, as previously authorised, amounts to £ 7000. It was decided to ask for authority for the following items; Electric ironing machine £SO, vacuum cleaner £ 15, new car for native nurse £ 200, Aga cooker £ 200, new instruments £SO, tnrnitnre, etc., £ 250.

Medical Superintendent's Deport Dr. J. Mark, Medical Superintendent of the Tauranga Hospital, presented his report for the month of January as follows: Admissions to hospital, 58; average, 30; patients at the end of the month, 24; operations, 29.

Taiminga Matron's Deport

Miss W. Bartlett, Matron of the Tauranga Hospital, submitted report dealing with staff matters. The Matron , said she wished to thank the following for gifts; Magazines.— Mrs Hunt, Mrs Wilson, Major Scautlehury, Mr O’Hara. Books. —Mr Lowe, Mr Dickson. Splint.—Mr Chandler Smith. Fish —Mr J. Williams. ■ Cabbages and Apples—Mrs Peterson.

Wine —Mr Butcher. Apples—Mrs Patton; Rhubarb—Mrs Merrick. Pears —Mrs Robins. Flowers —Mrs Moore, Mrs Mason, Mrs Voss, Mr Miller. Christmas Decorations — Bay of Plenty Times. The Town Band played in the grounds on February 7 and the Salvation Army Band on February 2Cr, both programmes being much appredated. Miss E. I. Gerrard wrote resigning her position on the staff, as she had accepted a position as ward sister at the Blenheim Hospital.—The resignation was accepted. To Puke Maternity Hospital.

Miss E. Chappell, Matron of the Te Puke Maternity Hospital, forwarded report for the month of January. Twenty-two patients were admitted; twenty-four were discharged; live patients remained in hospital on February 1. The Secretary reported that the average at the hospital last mouth was 6.75.

The Secretary, Mr P. Lumley, reported ou the following matters: Mr Vincent’s Resignation.—Mr Vincent gave me" a verbal notice that he Is resigning and wishes to be relieved ot his duties on 27th March. Annual Estimates. —The Estimates will have to be adopted at the meeting on 15th April. When the 'Estimates were adopted last year it was resolved to leave the interior painting of the two hospitals till this year. The Tanranga Committee recommends that the Tanranga Hospilal be done during 1937-38. I should be glad to have the Board's instructions to have this and the Te Puke ■Hospital included in the maintenance estimates for next year. In addition to the usual provision for replacements, Dr. Mark recommends that .£SO be placed on the Estimates for a new lube for the X-Ray, which has already exceeded the usual life of a tube. Old People's Home. —We have now six inmates at Mrs Collett’s. The matter of filling Mr Vincent’s ‘place was referred to the Tanranga Committee with power to act. It was decided that the Secretary procure estimates of the cost of painting the interior of the hospitals, for inclusion in the Estimates. Health of Natives The question of health of natives was discussed and it was decided that a resolution passed at the November meeting, to apply to the Health Department for an additional nurse, be rescinded, and that further inquiries be made in regard to the matter. Hospital Boards’ Conference A list of the remits to bo considered at the General Conference of Hospital Boards, opening at Timaru ou March 2, was considered. The Tanranga Board’s four remits are as follows: That Section 92, of the Hospitals <uul Charitable Institutions Act, 1926, Wid its amendments be abolished.
