THE SHOW

SIGNS OK A RKGORD day

There is not much point in announcing that to-morrow is Show Day Already the Show Ground is the scene of feverish activity, and machinery exhibitors are hurrying the erection of their improvised stalls for their exhibits, and by the number in the taco it looks as though ihev will be hard pressed for space. The side shows are more numerous than ever, and tents and all the paraphernalia is there that go to make up a display reminiscent of the “Fair Dav.-” when Aunt Sally was the target of all aspiring youths and maidens to register their shots. The colour, bustle and jarring melody are enough to transport one in this atmosphere of light entertainment. The St. Moritz Skaters will do their breath-taking Inn, in sensational and dangerous feats, yet w.th rhythmical grace. The Ladies' Committee is working hard for their sections of the Show, and' stewards, comewhat worried, ate trying to have every detail attended to before the opening to-morrow. Horses and livestock from distances have arrived already and are having their grooming and washing and polishing preparatory to going before the judges to-morrow. The show-ground is in perfect condition. In the Wood Chopping area the same activity prevails and the timing machine is being placed. The Push-Ball Game should be screamingly funny. They do not kick off —they simply push off! The aim of the opposing teams is to push the ball over their opponents’ goal line. This counts 2. Should the hall be pushed over ,the line between the goal posts then its 4 points. The fun will he when the huge ball six feet in diameter either rolls over an opponent or a man rolls over with -the ball. Of course the team might hoist the ball high in the air and rush it over the line. But a lot of things can happen then. The Whippet Racing is a star item, and these dog races will draw a crowd. Teams for the horse hurdle competitions are also here and should put up some good performances. Given fine weather, Show Day tomorrow should be an outstanding success, and that success will have been largely due to the activity of Officers and members of the Association. A new feature of the entertainment programme for the afternoon is provision for Scottish dancing. The platform for the dances will he placed below the grandstand. The Tauranga Highland Pipe Band will parade at Faulkner’s Corner at 1 o’clock and march to the Show ground. A Dance is to be held in the Rivoli in the evening, and arrangements have been completed for this. It is many years since a dance was held under the auspices of the Tauranga A. and P. Association on Show Day.
