SOCIAL CREDIT

AUSKUTA SCHEME FAILS Xew York, Sept. 10. A copyright message to the North American Newspaper Alliance from Edmonton, Alberta, states that the prosperity certificate experiment of the Premier, Mr William Aherhart Is a failure. About 175,000 dollars worth were issued. These were accepted only by the proprietors of certain stores until the Government announced at the beginning of September that it would cash in currency all the certificates presented to it. The storekeepers then began to accept the certificates a little more freely, but from the number already cashed it appears that few will remain in circulation for anywhere near the year for which it was proposed they should do. It is not likely that the Government will re-issue them. Another important aspect of Mr Aberhart’s experiments, namely the social credit dividends, is still in the covenant-signing stage, such signatures being necessary before the citizens can receive dividends. Unemployed and some farmers in drought-stricken areas have signed, ut .formers who have wheat crops eady for the market look askance at the prospect of taking half the social credit instead of cash, while business men are entirey suspicious of the scheme.
